My Background, Education & Experience
Though I was born and raised in San Francisco, California, I feel at home here in East Tennessee. I received my BA in Psychology from San Francisco State University and graduated from California State University East Bay with a Master’s in Counseling. I have worked with children on the Autism spectrum since 2010, and have been providing grief and illness support for all ages since 2011. I have worked in many environments – schools, crisis centers, hospice, homes, and clinics – and with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and parts of the world.
I believe that life is a series of transitions, big and small. We often encounter our greatest challenges and joys in adjusting to these transitions. I use a blend of modalities such as behavioral therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, existential therapy, narrative therapy, directive and non-directive art/play, and filial therapy to tailor treatment to your individual circumstances.
How I Can Help You
I specialize in helping children, adolescents and adults who are experiencing grief in its many forms (related to illness, caregiving, death and other life-changing events), and in helping families adjust to the constant changes that come along with having a child with Autism, ADHD, or developmental delays. I can also help if you are experiencing anxiety, depression, or stage of life/existential issues.
My work with children ages 3-12 years old addresses emotional and behavioral difficulties, focusing on emotional regulation, impulse control, social skills, and executive functioning. Therapy for children is provided one-on-one as well as with parents and/or siblings to ensure consistency, foster bonding, and improve interactions. For parents/guardians, I provide sessions without children present so that we can discuss thoughts and feelings around parenthood, parenting style, and relationship difficulties.
Depending on individual situations, I also include in-home therapeutic sessions for children and adults.
