Supporting a higher quality of life

Treatment Philosophy I am a licensed psychologist with 27 years of experience providing counseling and therapy to children, adolescents, adults and families. I use a short-term approach to therapy, helping individuals, groups and families identify, access and utilize their OWN strengths and resources to achieve the outcome they are seeking.

I believe that all people carry within themselves the capacity for solving their life's challenges. My purpose at THE INNER RESOURCE CENTER is to help clients develop and utilize their internal and external resources to achieve a higher quality of life.

I will help you to determine what you want your life to be like, and to set goals for yourself to achieve your desired outcome. The focus of therapy is on reaching those goals, and on finding effective and manageable solutions to your problems or challenges.

As your therapist, I can't magically make your problems disappear, but I will provide you with ideas, resources and alternative ways to help you reach your goals. I'll give you feedback about your journey, and encourage you along the way. You may make big changes or small changes, and on the way to your goals you may develop healthier patterns of living which will help you prevent future problems.

Do not fear life's challenges. Instead embrace them as opportunities for growth and pathways to discovering a higher quality of life.

Personal Development Coaching

Coaching is a relationship between two people--a coach and a client.  Typically, clients want to make changes in their lives--there may be goals that the client wants to meet.  A coach helps clients voice their own dreams, if they haven't already, and find ways to attain those dreams.

As your coach, I'll work with you to define your goals, and determine ways to meet them.  I'll help you uncover your resources for creating the kind of fulfilling life you have always wanted.  I'll coach you to take action, and more forward toward YOUR goals.  Exciting change begins to happen in the process of taking action and discovering your resources!

A coach can

  • help you determine what is working or not working in your life
  • help you determine your strengths and weaknesses
  • help you uncover your skills and abilities
  • help you find techniques, ideas, or new ways of looking at things.
  • provide total focus and support on you and your goals
  • hold you accountable for your commitments
  • help you maintain your motivation
  • help you clarify your thinking
  • help you develop action plans
  • help you discover ways to achieve the results you want

Initially, I worked in a community mental health center in rural Wisconsin, before starting in private practice in 1983. In addition to 24 years of clinical experience, I hold Board Certifications in the following areas:

  • Master Practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming
  • Master Practitioner of Time Line Therapy
  • Master Practitioner of  Clinical Hypnosis
  • Expert in Traumatic Stress
  • Forensic Traumatology
  • Equine Assisted Psychotherapist, Level I

I have co-authored three books:

  • Getting Ready for Court: A Book for Children (Civil Edition), Lynn M. Copen, Sheila Martin, and Linda M. Pucci, Sage Publications, 2000.

I've provided training to professionals on issues related to the court system and preparing children to testify, through the Wisconsin Department of Justice, and the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children. I have also served as an expert witness in cases involving child abuse and/or trauma.

I regularly teach non-credit classes through the University of Tennessee's Professional & Personal Development Program, including "Shifting Focus at Midlife,"  "Finding Your Life's Purpose" and "Discovering Your Inner Mare--a workshop with horses for mothers and daughters."

I'm currently working on Pegasus Pathways: Stepping Stones to Equine Assisted Work with Pam Salem, B.S.  We hope for publication by Spring, 2005.

In 2002 I helped form the East Tennessee Coaches Association and became it's first president in 2003.

Although my practice is quite diverse, all my activities are geared toward helping others be the best they can be!
